For the fourth consecutive game the Trojan baseball team has put double digit runs on the board, and on Wednesday, the pitching of senior Josh Ulery also netted a goose egg for the homestanding Ligonier Valley Rams, in a 15-0 Derry win. The game ended after four inning’s due to the 15-run mercy rule.
Ulery threw just 48 pitches in four inning’s of work, and gave up two hits. He struck out five and did not issue a free pass.
The Derry offense, who banged out twelve hits on Tuesday, added nine today led by Ulery, who had five RBI, and Antonio Hauser, who also scored three times. Ryan Bushey singled, scored twice, and drove in a run. Ryan Hood added a sacrifice fly and a two run single for a three RBI day. Sam Jones, Nick Thomas, Brayden Mickinac and Matt McDowell each had base hits and scored at least one run.
Rams pitchers also walked ten Trojan hitter’s in the game, led by Ashton Beighley who drew three free passes to drive in a pair of runs.
Derry Area, now (4-2) overall and (3-2) in section play, will play at the Homer Center Baseball Classic beginning Friday with a match-up against a perennial solid opponent in District 6 Richland (5-2). The tournament will continue into Saturday.
The Trojans will either play Claysburg/Kimmel or the host team Homer Center in game two at 1:00 Saturday.
There will be a small admission charge to gain entry into the beautiful First Commonwealth Field Complex, and they will offer a full concession stand for fans attending the games.
