Derry Area & Mt. Pleasant battled back n forth thru 4 quarters and the Vikings outlasted the Trojans literally to the final buzzer as they pulled out a 51-49 Section 4A contest at Mt. Pleasant.
Derry Area came out of the locker room and led by 8 after the first quarter. The game was tied at 21 at the half.
The Vikings prolific scorer, Jake Johnson, took matters in his own hands scoring 14 of his game high 23 points in the second half; half of the Vikings second half total points.
However, the Trojans kept pace down by only five points to start the fourth quarter behind Tanner Nicely & Tyson Webb’s 12 points respectively and Ryan Bushey’s 11 points.
After a missed Johnson free throw with 8.6 left, the Trojans had an opportunity to at least tie the game as Webb had a layup opportunity against two Viking defenders, but the ball was slapped out of his hands as the final buzzer sounded.
The Trojans (1-1) will host the (0-2) Yough Cougars next Tuesday in a pivotal Section 4A contest with an opportunity to be tied for 2nd place in the Section behind the #1 & #2 ranked teams in the WPIAL as Highlands and Knoch square off against each other the same night. Both teams are currently 2-0 in the section.
